In a thrilling and hard-fought match, Carlos Elwood and his maero partner Larish dal Punit triumphed in this year’s prestigious Jai Alai Championship, overcoming the favored duo of Tom Brass and May Inox with a narrow but resounding win. The final score stood at 21–19, with Elwood and Larish battling back from a 19-17 deficit to seal the championship in an exhilarating rally that had the crowd on its feet.
The victory was sweet for Elwood and Larish, who have become a favorite among Lovat fans for their impeccable teamwork and easygoing manner. While many predicted that Brass/Inox, with their seasoned experience and deep connection, would take the
Bicknell Cup this year, Elwood and Larish’s performance was a testament to the power of determination and practice.
On their traditional visit to the Mayor’s Office, the duo proudly wore their newly awarded champion jackets and belts as a symbol of their hard-won success. Mayor Camilla Magnez, a long-time supporter of the game and a notable fan of Brass/Inox, greeted Elwood and Larish dal Punit at the Mayor’s office to celebrate their victory. “It was an incredibly exciting match. While I will always hold a special place for Brass/Inox, it’s clear that Elwood and Larish have proven themselves to be formidable competitors. Lovat is lucky to have such talented athletes representing our wonderful city. I’m excited to host them today.”
Elwood, who hails from the Destiny, and Larish, a native of the Pathé warren, were both in high spirits after their victory. “This win means a lot to us,” said Elwood, holding the gleaming Bicknell Cup. “But we know this city’s jai alai legacy is built on the shoulders of many great players. It’s an honor to be part of it.”
Larish, ever the calm and collected competitor, added, “We came into this match with the mindset of playing our best game. It’s not just about the win, but about bringing the sport the respect it deserves.”
The victory has sparked a new wave of excitement about jai alai in Lovat, with fans excited to see if Elwood and Larish can defend their title in the upcoming season. As for the Mayor, while this year’s outcome may not have been what she had hoped for, she’s already looking forward to the next thrilling season of Lovat’s most beloved sport.
