Officers were called to a Wilcox boarding house on Alonzo Avenue late last night after neighbors reported shouting, broken glass, and what one caller described as “a maero attempting to throw a chair through a perfectly good window.” (He succeeded.)
Responding police arrived just before midnight to find the lobby in disarray and three individuals engaged in what witnesses described as a “rollicking fistfight” across the floor. The altercation allegedly began after a dispute involving an accusations of romantic betrayal.
One suspect, a 38-year-old maero laborer, reportedly attempted to escape by climbing over the reception counter before slipping on spilled liquor and knocking over a standing lamp. A second individual, identified as a dauger woman wearing a dented brass mask, was found brandishing a fireplace poker and shouting threats at anyone who approached. A third individual allegedly fled before officers arrived and remains at large.
Police recovered several empty bottles, a small quantity of powdered narcotics, and what appeared to be a bundle of betting slips from a nearby bookmaker.
Both participants were taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct, assault, possession of narcotics, and property damage. Both were treated for minor injuries before being transported to the precinct holding cells.
