The City of Lovat has passed a new amendment to the Lovat City Charter, Resolution No. 7266, granting the Lovat Loyalty Authority (LLA) the power to review and clear communication from various media outlets before publication. City officials state the amendment is a necessary step in curbing misinformation and ensuring that public discourse remains “aligned with verified truth.”
Mayor Camilla Magnez—who championed this resolution praised the amendment as a step toward a more responsible media environment. “This marks the beginning of a new era of honesty for Lovat,” Magnez said in a prepared statement. “Information is the foundation of trust. By ensuring that what reaches the people is accurate and free from reckless distortion, we create a more informed and unified city.”
Under §7266, news agencies, public broadcasters, and independent publishers must submit reports, editorials, and investigative pieces to the LLA for pre-publication review. The LLA will assess the material for “accuracy, civic integrity, and potential harm to public order.” While city officials emphasize that this is not a form of censorship, critics argue that the measure could lead to undue influence over independent journalism.
Council Member Carlton Akeley voiced concerns that the amendment grants the LLA unchecked power. “The people of Lovat should be able to trust their news without government intervention,” Akeley stated. “Giving the LLA the authority to determine what qualifies as truth is a dangerous precedent.”
Supporters of the amendment, including Council Members March Brass, Gidda dal Bur, and Avril Aluminia, say the measure will protect residents from misleading narratives and politically motivated falsehoods. “The people deserve facts, not fearmongering,” Brass remarked.
§7266 goes into effect immediately, media outlets have been advised to coordinate with LLA representatives to ensure compliance. Failure to seek clearance may result in fines or potential suspension of publication privileges.
The LLA has established a public inquiry office for residents with questions regarding the amendment. Press inquiries can be directed to lla@welcometolovat.com.
This is vile. The people will not stand for this. I am a Magnez voter. I can’t believe she betrayed us like this.
